January 15, 2025: 4th Quarter 2024 Estimated Tax Payment Due
If you’re self-employed or have other untaxed income, this is the final date for your 2024 quarterly estimated tax payment.
January 29, 2025 (approximately): Start of 2024 Tax Season
The IRS begins accepting and processing 2024 federal tax returns.
January 31, 2025: Deadline for Employers to Issue W-2 Forms
Employers must send your W-2 by January 31 to help ensure you can file your tax return on time. Note: You may not receive it by this date, but it must be sent.

Various 1099 forms, including 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, and 1099-K, must be sent to report income like freelance payments, interest, and other non-employee earnings.
February 18, 2025: Deadline to Reclaim Exemption from Withholding
If you claimed an exemption from tax withholding last year, you must refile a Form W-4 by this date to maintain that exemption.
April 1, 2025: Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) Due for Those Who Turned 73 in 2024
If you turned 73 in 2024, you must take your first RMD from retirement accounts by this date.
April 15, 2025: Tax Filing Deadline (Unless Extended)
The deadline to file your 2024 tax return is generally April 15, though it may be delayed if this date falls on a weekend or holiday.
April 15, 2025: Deadline to File Form 4868 for an Extension
If you need more time to file, submit Form 4868 by April 15 to extend your filing deadline to October 15, 2025. Keep in mind that any taxes owed are still due by April 15.
April 15, 2025: Deadline to Contribute to IRA or HSA for 2024 Tax Year
Make sure your IRA or HSA contributions for 2024 are completed by this date to count toward your tax year.
April 15, 2025: 1st Quarter 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Due
The first estimated tax payment for 2025 is due. Use IRS Form 1040-ES to calculate your quarterly tax liability.
June 16, 2025: 2nd Quarter 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Due
Your second quarterly estimated payment for 2025 is due. Payments are due at uneven intervals, not always corresponding to calendar quarters.
September 15, 2025: 3rd Quarter 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Due
Time to pay the third installment of your estimated taxes for 2025.
October 15, 2025: Deadline to File Your Extended 2024 Tax Return
If you filed for an extension, this is the final deadline to submit your completed 2024 tax return.
December 31, 2025: RMD Deadline for Those Aged 73 and Older
If you turned 73 in 2024, you must take your 2025 RMD by December 31. If you are otherwise subject to RMDs, this is also the deadline for your 2025 distribution.
January 15, 2026: 4th Quarter 2025 Estimated Tax Payment Due
The final quarterly estimated tax payment for 2025 is due. If you’ve opted to pay 100% of the previous year’s tax liability, any remaining balance will be due with your 2025 tax return in April 2026.

September 15, 2025: Extended Deadline for Partnership and S-Corporation Returns
